DESCRIPTION:
This striking Native American jewelry set is Zuni handcrafted by artist Philander Gia, using solid sterling silver and genuine turquoise stones arranged in the iconic needlepoint style. The necklace features a beautifully detailed circular centerpiece with hand-cut turquoise stones radiating outward, resembling a sunburst. Twisted silver wire, tiny silver beads, and hanging silver dangles complete the traditional look. The side panels mirror the needlepoint design for a harmonious layout.
The matching earrings reflect the side panel style of the necklace, each with vertical turquoise stones set in fine silver bezels. Each stone is carefully bezel-set, and the craftsmanship showcases classic Zuni silversmithing. The back of the necklace is signed by the artist "Philanter Gia" and marked Zuni, confirming authenticity.
Turquoise is the birthstone of December. It is believed that turquoise tends to bring good fortune, strength, and help overcome illness. Turquoise got its name from the Levantine traders called Turks who brought the stone to Europe from Persia via Turkey centuries ago. Native Americans have prized turquoise since the time of the Aztecs, who mined it in New Mexico. The natural variations that occur in turquoise are part of its appeal and beauty.
