DESCRIPTION:
We bring to you this adorable pair of earrings! This piece of Native American jewelry is Navajo hand strung by artist Esquipula Tenorio out of genuine sterling silver, along with real Santa Domingo Turquoise, Coral, Onyx, and Pin Shell beads. The earrings consist of: 3-mm silver round beads, along with 2-mm Turquoise, Coral, Onyx, and Pin Shell Heishi beads. Heishi A Pueblo term literally meaning shell; discs or tubes with a hole in the center, usually of turquoise, coral, shell, or other materials, strung together to form a flexible strand, often of graduated size. The Santo Domingo Pueblo people are known for fine heishi. A silver cone can also be seen holding the TWO strands of beads together for a delightful finish!
Turquoise is the birthstone of December. It is believed that turquoise tends to bring good fortune, strength and helps overcome illness. Turquoise got its name from the Levantine traders called Turks who brought the stone to Europe from Persia via Turkey centuries ago. Native Americans have prized turquoise since the time of the Aztecs, who mined it in New Mexico. The natural variations that occur in turquoise are part of its appeal and beauty.
Corals are known to be very soothing and very protective. Coral is of an organic origin; it is the skeletal remains of marine animals called Coral Polyps. Colonies of these tiny creatures build branching structures as they grow, gradually forming reefs and atolls.
