This beautiful style of Navajo art is called horse hair pottery because actual horse hair is added to the pottery at just the right moment in the firing process to melt the hairs into the pottery, creating unique and incredible designs. This Native American vase was hand etched with traditional patterns, along with a wonderful Turtle design, by Navajo artist Vail. In Native American beliefs, the turtle represents strength, female power, and fertility. The turtle is also considered to be able to defy death. The pottery is signed by the artist.
