Kachina is Approximately 15-3/4" tall including a 1-1/2" base, and is 5-1/2" wide at widest points.

This is an amazing carving packed with great detail work!

Many people have made the mistake of translating Heheya Aumutaka to "Heheya's Uncle", but it really means "like Heheya". This doll looks differently depending on which Mesa it is from. Heheya is one of the sons of the Ogres, like them, he sometimes scares the children. Usually, he is a runner or servant to the Ogres. He is normally not carrying anything in his hands, but sometimes he is seen carrying differnt things, usually a rope to scare people with. Heheya Aumutaka use to appear with the Soyoko on Third Mesa, but since the Soyoko no longer comes, he is changing to a general on the Powamu Kachina.

Darren Pooyouma is a young promising carver. He has great natural talent. Proportion is hard to get right, when one is carving, but Darren showed he had a great proportion ability at a very early age. Darren is one of few carvers who enjoy people criticizing their work. He wants to become one of the best carvers, and is willing to learn and keep learning by taking opinions and ideas from anyone. Darren was born on July 24, 1976 in Tuba City, Arizona. He has been carving since 1990, he considers himself a self taught carver and belongs to the Corn and Water Clans.

This Kachina Doll is made of cottonwood root and is signed on the bottom of the base " Darren Pooyouma "HEHEYA" Old Oraibi, AZ". If you would like to see a picture of the signature on the bottom of the base or more pictures of the doll please let us know. WE ARE PROUD TO BRING YOU ANOTHER AMAZING HOPI KACHINA DOLL!!!!!! size
Posted by Mike H. | Reviewing SilverTribe.com | Posted on
IF it were half the size it would be comfortable to wear all the time, but it is a little to big in size...very nice piece, it is just to large for everyday wear..
