Kachina is 10-1/2" tall including 1" base, and 4" wide at widest points.
Tasap yeibichai is the grandfather of the Navajo Kachina, and is one of the more enjoyable features of the Navajo Kachina Dance. He does not speak; instead he acts out “in a comical way” whatever he wants. He starts the dance, acting as a leader in both the singing and the dancing. His dance step is a sort of Lively exaggeration, with the occasional pause for comic relief, such as a request for food – mountains of food. All of his acts are done in pantomimes that make the audience laugh.
Silas Roy was born in Tuba City, Arizona on June 6th, 1948. He is Hopi and is part of the Coyote Clan. His dolls have excellent motion, detail, and proportion. Silas is an experienced carver, he has been caving since the early 1960's. Silas carves his dolls by looking into a piece of cottonwood and then gets a vision of the motion and porportion of the doll (depending on grain of the wood), and then he carvers out the doll as perfect as he can.. This Kachina Doll is made of cottonwood root. It measures approximately 10-1/2" tall including 1" base and is 4" wide at its widest points. Kachina is signed on the bottom of the base "Silas Roy". If you would like to see a picture of the signature on the bottom of the base or more pictures of the doll please let us know.
