Kachina is 11-1/4" tall including a 1/2" base, and is 4" wide at widest points.
This is an amazing Kachina that is beautifully detailed and painted. The Hototo
or Badger Kachina can be seen in all Mesas on the Hopi Reservation. Mainly he is
seen during the Bean and Mixed Kachina Dances at First and Second Mesa. He has
many roles including guard, gift bearer, and warrior. The part he usually plays
is to gather wood for the Kiva fires. He is named after the sound that the
Kachina utters. Hototo can also be known as the Honan or Badger Kachina,
depending on the village. Hototo plays many different roles in the Hopi culture
and is an important part, as animals are teachers, advisors, and doctors to the
Hopi people.
Kachina is carved by Jerel
Quamahongnewa. This Kachina Doll is made of cottonwood root. Kachina is signed on the bottom of the base "JEREL QUAMAHONGNEWA". If you would like to see a picture of the signature on the bottom of the base or more pictures of the doll please let us know. SILVERTRIBE IS PROUD TO BRING
