Kachina is 10-3/4" tall including 2-1/2" base, and 5" wide at widest points.
Every part of this Kachina is captured in this carving with a stunning amount of detail. The Hototo or Badger Kachina can be seen in all Mesas on the Hopi Reservation. Mainly he is seen during the Bean and Mixed Kachina Dances at First and Second Mesa. He has many roles including guard, gift bearer, and warrior. The part he usually plays is to gather wood for the Kiva fires. He is named after the sound that the Kachina utters. Hototo can also be known as the Honan or Badger Kachina, depending on the village. Hototo plays many different roles in the Hopi culture and is an important part, as animals are teachers, advisors, and doctors to the Hopi people.
